National Red Wine Day is just around the corner, and with that in mind, we’ve decided to compile a red wine chart containing 5 excellent rouge wines that will not disappoint, whatever your taste and budget.
1. Felton Road Pinot Noir Calvert
Our first choice is this wonderful New Zealand Pinot Noir from Felton Road in Central Otago. This red has an incredible aroma but is not overly oaked. For those of you who like your floral notes and want something pretty special, this one's for you.
2. Charles Krug Cabernet Sauvignon
A well-placed mid-range California red, this Cabernet Sauvignon has notes of brown spices, blackberry, and vanilla — a dry, full-bodied choice from Napa Valley that will impress your friends without breaking the bank!
3. Achaval-Ferrer Quimera
This Argentinian blend contains 50% Malbec, 24% Cabernet Franc, 18% Merlot, and 7% Cabernet Sauvignon. The result? A deep, rich flavor with hints of salted dark chocolate, cedar spices, and rosemary. Mmm!
4. Klinker Brick Farrah Syrah
If you like big, bold flavors and aren’t afraid to try something new, a Syrah (using Shiraz grapes) is a great way to go. This California red is a deep and velvety wine with dark fruit flavors alongside hints of black pepper.
5. Barefoot Bubbly Sweet Red
For our last choice, we thought we’d mix it up a little and add a touch of sweetness and sparkle. You don’t have to be celebrating to enjoy this tipple, but it certainly makes a change from your traditional red. An accessible, refreshing wine with notes of blueberry, raspberry, and aromas of jasmine and mandarin — what’s not to like?
