Introducing a biracial American woman into the monarch had never been done before and was a welcomed change. It was welcomed not only by the Queen but the general public, as well. The scene resembled a star-studded red carpet event and the wedding boasted of traditions from both Prince Harry’s and Meghan Markle’s family backgrounds. As the world watched this historic moment unfold, the public couldn’t help but spread love and support for the happy couple. Unfortunately, in this day and age, where there is love, there are also haters.
Instagram, Facebook, and Twitter were all a flutter in support of the couple. Many congratulated the couple on their wedding day, they commented on their beautiful love story, and, of course, the amazing dresses Meghan wore that day. Speaking of the dress, Her Royal Highness Duchess of Sussex wore a Givenchy Haute Couture gown with a diamond tiara borrowed from Queen Elizabeth II. For the reception, she wore a dress designed by Stella McCartney. People loved these looks on her and took to the internet to praise her bridal fashion and the designers. Prince Harry wore his military uniform to the ceremony and a nice black fitted tuxedo to the reception. The couple hit the mark for wedding attire. The ceremony was beautiful. And the majority of the people on social media couldn’t get enough of the stunningly happy couple!
Yes. The love was everywhere. But, there were some that refused to give the happy couple their shine. There were posts with inappropriate classless photos, tagged with the royal wedding hashtag. And there were some who posted their own wedding photos in attempts to overshadow the couple’s big day. Needless to say, it was all in poor taste and I have the feeling that there were a lot of accounts unfollowed that day. Out of all the posts, there was one, in particular, that got a lot of backlash. W Magazine posted a naked photo of Kate Moss wearing a veil and holding a bouquet over her genitals, with the caption “here comes the bride” #RoyalWedding. The public did not exactly appreciate this particular post. The majority of followers snubbed the post, but there were some who took humor in the post, calling those who were appalled “stupid and unable to take a joke.” The race card was even played a few times. In a recent article from the Guardian, the wedding was referred to as a “black wedding” superficial progress in the realm of equality.
One thing I can say is that love conquered hate that day. The majority of the comments shared that day showed love to the happy couple. The haters were outnumbered and forced to take a backseat by the lovers. This historic event was a public statement that love will always conquer and drive out hate. Congratulations to the Duke and the Duchess of Sussex! Your message was well received.
