Amīya's background in art gives her an advantage when it comes to make-up applications. She works hard to empower her clients, and her passion for learning and helping others achieve their best are some of the many reasons her clients return to her time and time again.
What inspired you to work in the health and beauty industry?
I’m inspired by how empowering it is. When a person looks good, they feel good; and when a person feels good, they can do just about anything.
Tell us about your unique qualities.
In addition to being a Make-up Designory School graduate, I’m also an artist in the traditional sense. I paint and draw on the side, and I believe that art is transferrable. I believe that I’m able to analyze my clients' bone structures differently because of my art background.
Describe the experience you provide to your clients.
I’m easy-going. Whether my client wants to chat it up or take a nap, my priority is to make sure they’re comfortable. I definitely go the extra mile for my clients.
What is your take on the "perfect client"?
I love it when a client is able to trust in my process. I work in layers and there’s an order to my work, so someone’s face is not necessarily going to look flattering mid-makeover. If the client can just sit back, relax, and enjoy the process, they’ll love how they look in the end.
Are there any classes or training sessions that you're in right now or hoping to join in the future?
I’m not currently enrolled in any classes, but I always have my eye out for celebrity master classes in my area.
Is there an educational opportunity that you wish existed but currently doesn't?
I think there’s a lot out of opportunity out there that we can learn from, and sometimes it’s hard to keep up. I think it’s hard to come up with an idea for a class that isn’t already out there. In my opinion, there are YouTube videos available for almost any subject.
How do you keep up with current trends?
Instagram and YouTube. That’s really all you need to keep up.
What new health or beauty trends are you most interested in?
I’m really glad that natural brows are back in style. In my opinion, the solid brow trend with a perfect fade doesn’t suit everyone, so I’m happy natural has come back.
In addition to the marketing tools that MOBILESTYLES provides, such as video and shareable profile pages - what other marketing tools and resources do you use?
Honestly, I’ve survived a long time using a website only. I just recently created an Instagram account for my makeup artistry work, and I always carry business cards with me to pass out when someone compliments my look.

I think on-demand health and beauty apps are exciting. They’re so convenient for both parties, the client and the PROs. I personally love it. To me, this is the future of health and beauty.
Favorite health and beauty products?
I’m really loving the Iconic London Illuminator - it’s my holy grail product at the moment. I mix a few drops in with foundation for a healthy, dewy glow.

If you want my best health and beauty PRO tip, this is it: take care of yourself. That means, drinking water, meditating, exercising, eating healthy food, and being kind to others. I believe that a person becomes more beautiful the more they love and serve others around them. Let your inner beauty shine!
In your opinion, what are the most common health or beauty mistakes people make?
When it comes to makeup, I like to work with light layers. I see so many people going in with too much makeup, and too fast. This applies to foundation, contouring, or blush - whatever it may be. I see this happening all the time on Instagram. We don’t need as much product on our faces as we think we do.
Name one health and beauty service everyone needs to try.
Besides a full face glam with me, everyone needs to try lashes - anything from a lash serum, to a lash lift and tint, or even wearing falsies. I believe that lashes make the biggest difference.
Health and beauty PROs or celebrities that you dream of collaborating with?
I actually just had a dream that I was hanging out with Chloe Morello. I would also love to work with Wayne Goss, Scott Barnes, MMMMitchel, and Pat McGrath.
What are some obstacles you've had to overcome within this industry?
Well, the beauty industry is a pretty saturated industry, so making myself known was one of my biggest obstacles. I had to constantly remind myself that there are tons of great artists out there, but there's only one of me, and I have great skills that others don’t.
How do you plan on becoming the best in your field of work?
Keeping myself relevant and continuing to follow my passion. I’m always learning, because we’re all life-long learners, in my opinion. Sometimes, I’ll even ask my friends, who don’t work as makeup artists, to do my makeup, because I feel that I can learn from anyone.
What’s the best advice you’ve received?
Right now, I’m focusing on a quote from Tony Robbins: “We don’t get our wants, we get our musts.”
What advice would you give to an aspiring PRO?
Passion is proof of capacity - that’s my advice. If you have the desire to be in this industry, then you have the capacity to do it. If you have passion, then anything is possible.
