Friendsgiving 2022: Social Distancing Dos And Don’ts

If you’re taking part in Thanksgiving or Friendsgiving 2022, it’s going to be more special than ever before.

It’s going to be amazing to see family and friends this Thanksgiving and Friendsgiving 2022.

There might be mixed feelings of anxiety and excitement, naturally. We’ve been cooped up at home watching the news about COVID-19 and the countless number of people who have died from this disease. Getting together with loved ones means we have to be extra careful about their safety and ours during Friendsgiving 2022.

Start with testing

You’re going to have to do more than food preparation this year. Start by asking everyone to get tested for COVID at least a week before. I know, I know, it seems like a hassle, but if your friends really want to see you and remain COVID-free, a test is necessary. That goes for you too. Get tested, and feel better knowing that your entire tribe is sans COVID-19.

After the test, make sure everyone monitors their temperature a few days leading up to your Friendsgiving event. By taking these two steps, it’ll ease the anxiety for anyone that feels uneasy about gathering with more than a few people.

The Smaller the Better

This brings me to my next tip: keep your gathering as small as possible. If you’re the Friendsgiving host, make sure you have spare masks, enough soap, hand sanitizer, and disinfectant. If you’re a guest, bring a mask and hand sanitizer. Don’t expect the host to have one for you, be responsible.

As the host, you have to make sure that you’ve properly disinfected all areas where people will be gathering. Make sure you place the hand sanitizer in high-trafficked areas for ease of use.

On the day of the event, let the host know that you’re on your way to make sure they’re ready to receive guests. Once you arrive, your instinct is to hug and kiss - I’m gonna need you to pump your brakes on those. Yes, we want to embrace our loved ones, but don’t. Don’t even fist bump. Be like Betty White and do a dab instead; do something where there is no physical touching, as matter of fact, this leads me to my next do.

Do stay 6 feet apart. Sure, it might not be possible at all times, but try. Try hard. Next, don’t take off your mask when you’re not eating or drinking something. The likelihood that you have COVID shouldn’t be possible since you’ve taken the precautions mentioned above, but it’s better to be safe as often as possible, not just for you, but for your friends too.

Lastly, I have one other option for you. The safest option of them all, instead of gathering under one roof, move your Friendsgiving 2022 gathering over a Zoom call. It’s not the same by any stretch of the imagination, but it’s going to keep everyone safe, and that is the most important practice we can continue while COVID-19 is running rampant across the world.
