Smoking and alcohol
Smoking and consuming alcohol are some of the worst culprits when it comes to early aging. The toxins in cigarette smoke actually damage and break up the collagen and elastin that keep your skin looking young and smooth. Smoking is also known to create ‘smokers lines,’ which are wrinkles around your lips formed from sucking on cigarettes. Alcohol is a significant dehydrator, which is so bad for your skin. Alcohol makes your skin dry, swollen and can break the capillaries in your skin- all of which are signs of early aging. To avoid these aging triggers, obviously don’t smoke and limit your drinking as much as possible, but to treat these skin issues, keep your skin hydrated from the inside out by using moisturizer and drinking plenty of water.
Drinking from straws
Like smoking, drinking from straws is a big culprit when it comes to creating fine lines and wrinkles around your mouth. Any facial movement that is repetitive and frequent makes wrinkles in our skin, and repeatedly sucking on straws to drink our drinks is no exception to this. Drinking from small openings like water bottles has a similar effect, so the best option for preventing wrinkles is simply drinking from a cup–sans straw!
Excess sun exposure
It's no secret that the sun's harmful rays are damaging to our skin and are significant causes of premature aging. Sun damage is responsible for fine lines, wrinkles, dark spots, pigmentation, and rough skin. When your skin gets a suntan (or burn), your skin becomes more and more damaged. The best way to counteract and prevent this damage is to avoid sunbathing and always wear SPF–even in the winter months! Products that reduce sun spots and pigmentation are vitamin C serums, and they should be added to your skincare routine if you're experiencing these early aging signs.
