Crochet Braids: What is it, and How Can You Get the Look!
Crochet braids are a great way to get an intricate hairstyle without spending as much time on it.
Crochet braids have been hot for a while now, and I think it’s safe to say that this trend may be around for a little while longer. If you’ve never heard of crochet braids or don’t know exactly what it is, it’s a great way to get an intricate hairstyle without spending as much time on it. You can basically get any style of hair and crochet it into your own head. Whether you want box braids, wild waves, or voluminous curls, crocheting may be the best way to go! If you are ready to try this technique for yourself, then you need to prime your hair for installation. Yes, I said prime your hair. Don’t worry, I’ll explain.
The first thing you want to do is wash and condition your hair according to the guidelines set for your hair type, texture, and porosity. Then let it completely dry. Once your hair is dry, you need to braid your natural hair in a pattern that is easy for you to work with. If you do want to pull your hair up at some point, part your hair, or expose your scalp, then you want to either have that hair loose from the braided pattern or braided in such a way that the part ends up lining up right where you want it. Keep that in mind while braiding your natural hair.
Once you have your foundation set (clean and braided hair), then you are ready to install the hair. Have a professional do this for you or you can do it yourself. You need about six or seven packs of hair for crocheting, and a crocheting tool called a latch hook crochet needle. If you are doing this yourself, you can always follow a YouTube tutorial. The total time to install the hair usually takes about two and a half to three hours tops!
All in all, I have to say that crochet braided styles are a lifesaver! You can rock the look you want without spending the entire day trying to achieve it!
