Greetings, gentle readers! Our favorite Netflix original series surprised us all with their follow-up season to one of the most talked about shows of 2020. Though news that starring actor Regé-Jean Page, who played Simon, wouldn’t be returning after season 1 caused for concern for many watchers, Bridgerton season 2 did not disappoint in the slightest. From the on-screen romantic tension to the life lessons we’ll hold dearly forever, we simply couldn’t get enough!

You can’t choose who you love

In this season, Anthony (Jonathan Bailey) has set out once again to find his wife. As the viscount, he feels it’s his responsibility to marry a woman of stature to carry on the legacy of the Bridgerton family, rather than to marry out of love. He sets his eyes on the “Diamond” of the season, new-to-the-show Edwina (Charithra Chandran). Although Edwina appears to have all of the qualities (and more) that Anthony could possibly want, and she is in love and ready to marry him, he just can’t seem to keep his eyes (or lips) off of Edwina’s sister, Kate (Simone Ashley). It looks like checking off all the boxes sometimes isn’t enough — as it turns out, true love might be where you least expect it.

family

Family over everything

Sisters Kate and Edwina have a beautiful relationship, and you can tell just how much each admires the other — just one example being Kate’s determination to remain single in order to help Edwina find a husband. But as we previously mentioned, Kate gets swept up by Anthony’s charm, in turn causing detrimental effects to Kate and Edwina’s relationship. Naturally, Edwina can’t believe that her sister would steal the man she loves, and it takes her a while to cope with it. Ultimately, regardless of the hurt Edwina feels, she only wants Kate to be happy, so she gives her her blessing to court Anthony, and they end up marrying. Edwina’s sacrifice shows us just how much family means to her!

friend

NEVER sell out your friends

With the reveal of Lady Whistledown at the end of season 1, we get to see lots of Penelope (Nicola Coughlan) in action in season 2. She works closely with Madame Delacroix (Kathryn Drysdale) to attempt to remain anonymous, with the Queen (Golda Rosheuvel) and best friend Eloise (Claudia Jessie) actively on the hunt to find out her identity. Penelope gets put in a tough position and ends up having to expose Eloise in one of her print issues, and everything comes crashing down at the end of the season when Eloise finds Penelope’s secret stash of writing under her floorboard. Eloise is devastated to learn that her best friend is Lady Whistledown and that she would so willingly throw her under the bus. From the looks of it, Penelope and Eloise’s friendship is donezo.
