Stress Awareness Month: 5 Tips to Beat Stress
Sometimes we let it get the best of us, but we're here to give you the tips you need to know to beat stress this month (and every month)!
April is stress awareness month, and I’m sure we can all do without any extra stress in your life. If you are dealing with excess stress in your life, then this one is for you! Here are some of the best ways to deal with unwanted stress in your life.
1. Take 16 minutes out of the day to do absolutely NOTHING.
Whether you decide to meditate or take a nap, studies show that taking at least sixteen minutes to relax and shut off your brain is a great way to take the stress off.
2. Have an outlet for your pent up emotions.
Some turn to yoga while others turn to boxing. This shows us exactly how different we are. What helps some people relax may cause others great release. If you hold in your feelings, you can only imagine how bad of an effect it has on your health, mind, and spirit. It’s like shaking up a soda can and letting it sit. The pressure within is so great that you expect it to explode at any moment and it probably will. But if you find a way to release it before the tension reaches capacity, you won’t have to worry about possibly exploding.
3. Practice letting go.
Nowadays people can be very sensitive especially with the current state of our nation. People are barely tolerating each other and it seems everywhere you turn, there is someone getting upset about something whether it is valid or not. A good way to keep from getting caught up in the mayhem is to practice letting go. The only thing you can control on this earth is yourself, so whenever you feel you are about to become stressed and upset about something, take 2 deep breaths, clear your mind, and then take another 3 deep breaths. Have a glass of cold water if you are really upset and then think about the situation logically. How can you go about solving this in a calm manner?
4. Take a vacation!
When was the last time you got away from your everyday routine? You may find yourself a bit on edge because you’ve had no real time to yourself. Take a vacation or a staycation where you can forget about life for a moment. Handle whatever you need to before you go and then forget about life and just relax!
5. Never wait until the last minute for anything.
Bills, important phone conversations, and other pressing matters should be handled right away to stop yourself from experiencing the unnecessary stress that comes along with unfinished business. Putting things off to the last minute doesn’t help anyone and trust me those matters will still be waiting for you and perhaps become even more pressing if there is a deadline involved. Do yourself a favor and handle matters as they come. You will forgo a lot of stress when you do so!
