Congrats Grads! How To Throw the Best Family Graduation in Quarantine
Throwing a family graduation party as we all adapt to the new "normal” doesn’t have to be difficult. Here's how you can easily do it!
Family graduation parties are a special part of our lives that we want to continue celebrating!
Congratulations to this year’s graduates! Now is a time when they should be celebrating their accomplishments and looking toward the future. Unfortunately, that's not the reality we've all come to experience. End of year commencements have been canceled and celebratory vacations have been postponed due to COVID-19.
Our new normal has forced all of us to take a step back and focus on what is really important. Family, friends, and your purpose here on Earth. No one knows that better than the graduates of 2020.
Grads, your hard work and dedication to your future do not go unnoticed. It may hardly seem like a time for celebrations, but it is important to keep some sense of normalcy during this time. There are ways to acknowledge your ascension into the next stage of life while maintaining physical distancing. Here are a few ways to get everyone you know in the festive spirit for your or your loved ones' family graduation party.
Less is more: a 2020 graduation.
You’ll find that during this time you may not need as much as you thought you did before the coronavirus came into our lives. This includes the grand graduation. You can have a small graduation ceremony at your house instead. Your immediate family, or those you live with, are a great resource for ideas and ways to celebrate a graduation.
One of the MOBILESTYLES team members had the privilege of watching a family commencement for a college graduate. She notes it was probably the most creative family event she had ever witnessed. The graduate in question did not want to attend a big ceremony, but the proud family couldn’t possibly let the moment pass by.
They planned an intimate graduation ceremony on their own, fully equipped with:
- a commencement speaker (the sister).
- a cap and gown (from Amazon).
- the mailed diploma (from the university).
- the audience (the rest of the family).
- the iconic pomp and circumstance playing in the background (courtesy of the internet).
They all gathered in the backyard and created a one-of-a-kind ceremony for their graduate. This is something anyone could do, tailoring it to the preferences of the graduate. With a little bit of decor, some music, and some food, you can have the time of your life.
Virtual party: share your screen with friends and family.
After the ceremony, you may want to get your friends and extended family involved in the celebration. This is where video chat comes in! Platforms like Zoom, Skype, Facetime, and WhatsApp allow you to bring people into your home via smartphone or the web.
It’s not the same as being able to hug and kiss your loved ones, but it comes in a close second when all you need is a smile or well wishes from those closest to you. Bring them into your home this way and celebrate with them.
Grad gifts: celebrate your graduate with style.
No celebration is complete without presents! Most people mark this occasion with gifts and money to help prepare recent grads for their future endeavors. This generous gesture doesn’t have to be lost during this time. Friends and family can send gifts via courier or drop gifts off at your doorstep. They can even transfer cash via Zelle or CashApp.
During these hard times, finding a little bit of light is imperative to keeping your sanity. Throwing a memorable family graduation can be a good way to celebrate your achievements, as well as spend some quality time with your loved ones. Oh, and don’t forget to take lots of pictures and videos of the celebration! You'll cherish those photos for years to come.
