Ale is the Mexican-American beauty and fashion influencer behind @styledbyale. Ale has collaborated with some of our favorite beauty brands including Benefit Cosmetics and Maybelline. Besides having a flourishing YouTube following, Ale is also a successful entrepreneur with a sunglasses shop called LA Sunnies and an accessory collection, Alery, as well. What tips can you share with those who want to build their own personal brand on social media?

Consistency and staying authentic to who you are. When you are yourself people can really relate. Now people look for more of a personal touch or personal level and that’s what’s worked best for me. Once you start opening up, people love that and it really helps grow the brand.

What was the biggest challenge for you in growing your channel and how did you overcome it?

In the beginning, I started doing content in English and I did it for about two years and I was not growing. I, then, discovered that my English content is translated into Spanish. I started doing content in Spanish, which isn't oversaturated, as well and my following grew significantly. Now, my content is both in English and Spanish. I think the key is when something isn’t working for you, figure out how you can do it in a different way and not get so focused on ‘It’s not working, it’s not working.’ Find a solution. There’s space for everybody. It’s just finding your niche, your voice, and working with that to grow.

Since your channel focuses a lot on fashion and beauty tips, we’d love to learn about some of your favorite trends for fall. What trends do you think will be big?

I, definitely, think color is coming back.

Clear! I think clear is huge right now, especially with heels, bags, and fanny packs. You see a lot of 90s influence right now, which is fun. Fashion always kind of comes back around, and I think right now you are seeing a lot of the 90s.

Do you have any favorite makeup trends right now?

For me, it’s highlight! I love to highlight, and I think that’s something that really brings life to your face. It’s kind of like the accessory to your outfit. It’s the accessory to your makeup. I love it! I hope to one day have my own brand.

We know you’re so busy, but what do you do to relax during your downtime?

I think that’s the hard part about this industry. You never really turn off because my life is my brand. Even if I go on vacation I’m constantly on Instagram. I was just telling my husband, "Babe, we went all over the world with different brands. Let’s take a trip just you and I." He said, "Yeah but we’d have to turn off our phones." Then, I said, "Oh, no! I can’t do that because my brand is my job and my life."

I do try to dedicate at least one day a week to spend with my family, and let my phone die. At that point, I don’t have a choice but to be completely disconnected. When I’m feeling cluttered and frustrated, I go to my family and get kind of a fresh start because that’s what feeds my soul at the end of the day. But because we work from home, we don’t really have a 9 to 5. It’s a 24 hours type of thing.
