6 Things You Can Do to Start Appreciating Nurses in Your Lives

6 Things You Can Do to Start Appreciating Nurses in Your Lives

Appreciating nurses is something the world needs to do more often, especially during this time.

Appreciating nurses is something that we should all be striving to do more often.

The COVID-19 pandemic has affected us all in so many ways - especially nurses. Nurses are constantly working in unsafe environments, at times without all of the proper personal protective equipment (PPE) that is imperative in keeping them safe and healthy. Without this equipment, nurses are at risk of contracting the virus leading to staff shortages. Nevertheless, nurses go to work every day knowing the risks, and they show up anyway to protect the community and treat the sick.

Here are 6 things you can do to show appreciation for the nurses in your life during this time (and hopefully some of these gestures can extend past this pandemic). And don't worry if you're unable to contribute monetarily right now — appreciating nurses can be done in other ways!

1. Stay home.

The #1 thing we can do right now to support and show our appreciation for nursing staff is to do our part and stay home. The more we stay home, the more we can control the spread of COVID-19 which in turn makes the nursing staff’s jobs easier and less risky for them!

2. Donate money to purchase PPE.

If you have available funds to donate, find a reputable organization to support that helps purchase personal protective equipment to keep nurses and the nursing staff safe during these times.

3. Donate meals to hospitals.

Many local organizations have programs available that you can donate to, that help provide meals to essential workers like a nursing staff so they don’t have to also prep or buy food for themselves, on top of everything else!

4. Participate in a 7 PM cheer.

Every night at 7 PM, local time, millions of people cheer to show support for the nursing staff all over the world. Many people cheer from their balconies or property, and some people drive by the hospitals to cheer and honk their horns to show their support. This small act of kindness helps to show appreciation for nurses and also brings people together, all at the same time.

5. Say Thank You!

Chances are, you know a nurse or two personally. Consider writing them a heartfelt note giving them thanks and showing your appreciation for everything they’re doing this hard time. While it can be hard to figure out what to do right now to support with social distancing in place, a quick note is a perfect way to show your gratitude.

6. Make a sign.

Consider creating a supportive sign to place in your window or on your front lawn, maybe something that can simply say thank you. This way when a nurse, or even any essential worker, drives by your house to get to work, the grocery store, etc., they’ll see your heartfelt gesture and feel the support. This can really lift the spirits of someone coming home from such a stressful experience.

On behalf of Team MOBILESTYLES, thank you to all of the nurses, doctors, nursing staff, first responders, grocery store workers, truck drivers, delivery people, and everyone that is staying home! Remember, appreciating nurses is super easy to do!
