8 Reasons You Might Be Experiencing Hair Loss
Hair loss may be normal, but we don’t have to like it. One of the most unfortunate things we can deal with as a human being is hair loss.
Losing your hair can really affect you emotionally and mentally. It can lower your self-esteem, your overall confidence, and even cause other issues such as depression and anxiety.
However, sometimes your hair loss may be temporary and something you can take care of. Here are some reasons you may actually be experiencing hair loss.
Genetics
This is probably the most unfortunate one because it means you have little to no control over your hair loss. If losing your hair is caused by genetics, you probably don’t have much say in how much hair you lose. However, it’s possible some of these other reasons could be accelerating your hair loss.
Stress
We all know how detrimental stress can be to our overall health, but did you know it can also cause you to lose hair? Stress can actually push your hair follicles into what is known as a “resting phase”. This means they basically won’t produce any more hair strands.
Diet
When you’re not getting the proper vitamins and minerals your body needs, your hair can suffer from that. For example, having too little protein in your diet can actually cause your hair follicles to stop producing new strands.
Tight hairstyles
Time to loosen that ponytail! Having tight hairstyles can cause a lot of damage to your hair follicles, causing permanent breakage.
Birth control pills
Because birth control pills affect your hormones it’s possible ones with a high androgen index may be the cause of your sudden hair loss. Some people may even experience hair loss after using birth control.
Medications
Some medications, such as anti-depressants are known for causing hair loss. Some other medications could be beta-blockers, blood thinners, or Accutane.
Rapid weight loss
It may be nice to lose weight quickly when you’re starting a new diet and exercise regimen, but losing weight too quickly can have adverse effects.
Whatever the reason is, just know that you are definitely not alone. So many people around the world suffer from hair loss for one reason or another and it’s absolutely normal.
