While health and safety guidelines change at a rapid pace, we are still assured that staying at home as much as possible is for the greater good.

This year, we all have to get creative when it comes to staying in touch with our loved ones. Luckily, we have an abundance of technological means at our disposal, and staying connected has never been easier. Here are some fun, engaging ways to entertain yourself with family and friends, no matter how physically far away they might be.

Quiz Night

Take family game night to new heights by utilizing quizzes or gaming software and host a virtual get together. Or, go old school and DIY. Give everyone a category and ask them to come up with 10 questions and select someone to act as the quiz master. Each person takes turns to read their questions to the group, and everyone texts or emails their answers to the quiz master. Of course, it goes without saying, the more jovial and humorous the categories are, the more fun everyone will have.

Book Club

Get your lit-loving pals together and coordinate a virtual book club. Don’t know where to start? Follow the lead of one of the nationally-recognized book clubs (or a celebrity book club like Reese Witherspoon’s) and get planning your own reading list once you’ve taken the group’s interests into account.

FaceTime Dates

We get it, the Holiday season can be particularly rough when you’re single and ready to mingle. Fortunately, most popular dating apps have now integrated the ability to safely video chat with matches within the app itself. What the best part? You don’t technically have to change out of your slippers and if it’s a dud, just hang up and blame. Just because you can’t go hang out at a bar or a coffee joint right now, doesn’t mean you can’t meet Mr. or Mrs. Right via technical means. Happy swiping!

Cooking Class

Is your dad good at making a Sunday roast? Or can your sister whip up a mean pasta dish? Why not ask them to host a cooking tutorial for the whole family via Zoom or Google Hangouts. Send out ingredients and utensils to all participants ahead of time to make sure everyone is well prepared. The best part? Dinner will be ready by the time the evening munchies set in. Ready, steady, cook!

Happy Hour

Are you working from home and missing the office camaraderie? Chances are, your co-workers are feeling the same. Get the whole gang back together for a digital ‘water cooler’ moment after work on a Friday evening and replicate the buzz of an impromptu team happy hour after a long week at work. Don’t forget to invite your boss and interns too!
