4 Ways to Win the Christmas Season as a College Student
The holidays can be tough when you're not able to spend them with your family. Get into the Christmas spirit even if you're away from home with our tips.
Sure, a lot can be going on with the fall semester coming to a close, but who says you have to wait to return home for winter break to get in the Christmas spirit? As fun as spending the holidays with your family can be, jingling a few bells with your roommates or best mates can make spirits even brighter.
Turn your final exam study session into a party
Before the freedom and festivities of the holiday, you’ve got to ace those finals. Instead of the "usual" group study session, you can turn it into a Christmas party! Find somewhere cozy like a common room or group study room in a library, put on your tackiest Christmas sweaters and fuzziest socks, and have everyone bring a baked good. You can even put together a playlist of everyone’s favorite holiday songs for a group sing-along. If there’s a TV nearby, use an HDMI cable to hook a laptop up to it and project a livestream of a roaring fire for a semi-authentic fireside vibe.
Secret Santa
An oldie but definitely a goodie, Secret Santa has always been a friend group's must-have. If you’re worried about everyone finding out who their person is beforehand, there are websites like elfster.com and drawnames.com that do the name drawing for you.
Deck the dorm
While you may not be able to get away with putting up a Christmas tree in your dorm room, there are other ways to bring a bit of the holidays to your space. For starters, a plastic, mini Christmas tree serves as a great alternative for the real thing, and would only set you back about $15. String lights are almost essential for any dorm room, but you can add a little extra flair by hanging candy canes and even small ornaments in between the bulbs. Wrapping paper will be available in abundance, so grab the most festive roll you can find and wrap the door of your room. Don’t forget to add a bow!
Christmas and Chill
Christmas specials and movies play an important role during the Christmas season. Pick an afternoon or evening when everyone has some downtime from school obligations, and see just how many films you all can get through. Have everyone contribute their favorite holiday flick, grab some hot chocolate and settle in for some major holiday feels.
