Why You Should Drink More Fruit-Infused Water

Why You Should Drink More Fruit-Infused Water

Fruit-infused water is known to have great benefits for gut, immune, and cardiovascular health.

This is why you need to start drinking fruit-infused water sooner than later

These are some reasons why we love integrating fruit-infused water into our diet.

What about fruit-infused water or detox water as it's commonly known?

Can we get the same benefits from adding fruits, veggies, and herbs? We've been told by many that consuming detox water will help in getting rid of toxins, lose weight, and improve our energy. Well, this can also be done by drinking plain water. Our bodies are 60 percent water, and we need to stay hydrated throughout the day for proper function. Dehydration can cause headaches, make you sluggish, and damper your mood.

The optimal amount of water we should be drinking is roughly a liter a day, depending on your weight, activity level, and age. Let's face it; most people think drinking water is boring, so they opt for a drink that will taste better but ultimately have too much sugar and too many calories. The next best thing is to replace these sugary drinks with healthier alternatives like fruit-infused water. They'll give your water a hint of sweetness, they have a significant amount fewer calories, and they're much better for you anyway. It's a win-win.

The best part, you can make this at home

Combine your favorite fruits, veggies, and herb to your liking. Chop your selected combination of fresh ingredients, add them to cold water, and store in the fridge for 2-4 hours for optimal taste. You can leave the chopped ingredients in the water up to 12 hours for the flavors to infuse further, but you'll want to remove them before decomposing.

You can also bruise or crush your fruit if you don't want to wait for the flavor to infuse in the water for 2-12 hours in a fruit-infused pitcher or fruit-infused water bottle. This will release the flavors much quicker so you can take your water with you on the go. You won't get the same benefits in the infused water as you would by eating them, but you do get better-tasting water, and it's much easier to drink water that as some flavor than none.

The main goal of drinking water infused with fruit, veggies, or herbs is to encourage you to drink more of it so you can reach the optimal hydration your body needs to function correctly. It's much easier to guzzle down water when it tastes pleasant.

To infuse or not to infuse your water with fruit?

Any claims that you see or read about that drinking fruit-infused water will miraculously change your life are not backed by science. It would take a significant amount of fruit, vegetables, or herbs to reap the water's benefits. If it takes 5 cucumbers to get the same benefit of eating 1 cucumber, then why not just eat the one cucumber? Make sense?

Fruit-infused water is tasty, refreshing, and thirst-quenching. Isn't that a good enough reason to add fruit to your water? We think so!
