6 Mood Lifting Activities to Try Right Now

6 Mood Lifting Activities to Try Right Now

We’ve all had days where we are in need of a little mood lifting. Learn ways to combat depression and improve your mental health.

Try these mood lifting activities to turn dark days a little brighter.

With so much going on in the world around us, finding things to boost our mood can feel nearly impossible. Luckily, we’ve compiled a list of mood lifting activities for you to try out so you can combat feelings of sadness and depression, and maybe even sneak in some physical exercise!

So, here are a few mood lifting activities you can try so you can continue on your day with a much more positive mindset.

1. Video chat with a friend

Yes, you can phone a friend and speak to them like that, but there is something different about video chatting with someone. Being able to see their face, their expressions, reactions, and just have that one on one connection we’ve been missing will instantly put you in a good mood. Take some time today to video chat with a friend, family member, or a loved one you haven’t spoken to in a while. Keep the conversation super light-hearted and fun for optimal mood lifting.

2. Minimize your to-do list

One of the ways we stress ourselves out is by giving ourselves just way too much to do in a day. We set very high expectations of ourselves, which causes us to feel inadequate and stressed when we can’t complete these tasks. Instead, take some unnecessary things off your list. We’re all human. You don’t have to be productive every day.

3. Take 15 minutes to do something you enjoy

Whether you’re working or just at home, take a few moments to do a hobby you enjoy. This could be drawing, reading, yoga, or watching your favorite show on TV. Exploring your passions is always mood lifting!

4. Go for a walk around the block or to a park

If you have the means to do this, it is highly recommended you take some time to go for a walk around your neighborhood or even a nearby park. Getting some fresh air, while enjoying the sunshine and nature will fill you with some much needed serotonin.

5. Play with your pet

Research shows that your pets can easily boost your mood within a few minutes of spending time with them. So stop what you’re doing and play with your pet for a little bit. They’ll appreciate it just as much as you will.

6. Dance

This one may feel a little weird, but it’s actually well known in therapy to dance when you’re feeling down or stressed. This could be with music or without, and it doesn’t have to even be dancing. You should just shake your body.

The most important thing to remember is to be kind to yourself. This has been a tough year for our mental health and even physical health for some people. However, there are so many steps you can take in your daily life for mood lifting as we continue to move forward in these uncertain times.
