The 5 Health Myths and Benefits of Body Wraps
Many people believe the health benefits of body wraps include lowering stress, detoxifying the body, and helping destress. But is it so?
The benefits of body wraps do, in fact, live up to their hype!
Here’s how you should realistically think of a body wrap service.
There are so many options to choose from when you look at the spa’s menu. It can be a little overwhelming because every service sounds like one that you need to get. A service that I was able to try, just before we went into lockdown, was a body wrap service. This service was hyped up by so many amazing claims that I had to try it out. Before I went to my appointment, I looked into the benefits of body wrap services and this is what I found.
Expectation vs Reality
Body-wrap descriptions will promise weight loss, reduction in cellulite, and detoxification. These are semi-truths that will occur post-body-wrap service, and they’re temporary. Sure, you may lose a couple of pounds and you’ll see less cellulite, but what they don’t tell you is that it’s only going to last for a day or two. The weight you lost was just water weight, and the reduction in cellulite is attributed to the same thing.
If you’re looking to go to an event where you need to look your best the day of, this is the perfect service to get. It’ll have you looking slimmer for your event and make you feel confident. You have to keep in mind that this is just a temporary fix.
When it comes to detoxifying the body, that’s not going to happen. You can’t get a body-wrap service and expect your liver or kidney to be detoxified. What you can expect, depending on the ingredient used, like clay, is to have your skin detoxed because clay pulls out the impurities from your skin.
Sensitive Skin
If you have sensitive skin, ask prior to your appointment, what ingredients are used in the body-wrap to make sure the experience won't be unpleasant for the duration of the session. If there are any fragrances used, you should ask if they have other options minus fragrance.
Keep in mind that after your body is scrubbed and the product is slathered on, they wrap you up in a hot blanket for 30 minutes for you to sweat it out, which is the best part.
How You Should Realistically Think of a Body-Wrap Service
Just like when you book a Swedish massage, you expect to feel good, maybe a little sore the next day, but it’s the good kind of sore—that’s the same way you should think of a wrap. Don’t expect something magical to happen, but DO expect to feel hydrated and relaxed after receiving the service. It’s a fabulous service to get when you’re feeling stressed, overwhelmed, overworked, or anxious.
This treatment will promote a sense of calmness. I mean, you’re wrapped up like a mummy for 30 minutes in a dimly lit room with nowhere to go, and all you have to do is lie there and enjoy the product absorption.
The benefits of body wraps make this a service that I highly recommended, plus the temporary effects last for the following day or two, which is great.
