In order to gain an independent nail technician license, most states follow similar requirements:

Be at least 16 years old

Have a high school diploma or GED
-
Complete a state-licensed cosmetology program
Remember to do your research regarding the licensing requirements in your state before you choose where you want to continue your education or training for your nail tech career.
For instance, an apprenticeship in California requires 3,200 hours of training over a two-year period, and an additional 220 hours of classroom time. Freelance nail tech requirements may vary significantly across different states.
